Abstract


This paper considers the integration of science and technology invention in Technical Education as a future orchestration for national development. It examines the low enrolment statistics in vocational and technical education. The need for Vocational and Technical Education in national development was highlighted. A clear dichotomy of science, technology/invention and Vocational/Technical Education was stated. The need to have independent implementation of the development of their policy was also stated. Merging science, technology/invention and technical education toward achieving Nigerian vision 20:2030 was also stressed. The effects of neglecting Vocational and Technical Education in national development were stated. The paper concluded with the recommendation that there is need to prepare a critical mass of talented technology/technical based workforce. Practical steps must be taken to strengthen the technical education system infrastructure. National development policies must target technical education industries of comparative advantage for invention. Vision 20-2030 aspiration must be targeted and deliverable for the next 10-15 years. Such targets should use a well equipped technical education for assessing highly practical skill performances and periodic realignments.
