Abstract


This paper critically examined the roles of Science, Technology, Mathematics Education (STME), security and economic developments of Nigeria as a nation. Its primary focus is that security is the major determinant of development of any society. It examined the concepts of national security and national development, how they are tangled and linked them to the Nigerian society. The paper also examined the introduction of STME into many aspects of everyday life which has led to the development of modern concept of information in the society with great opportunities. The level of insecurity in Nigeria is a cause of national security challenges in Nigeria such as corruption, injustice, poverty, poor healthcare delivery services, decayed and collapsed infrastructure, environmental degradation and socio-religious crises. The roles mathematics plays in unity, security and economic developments of Nigerian nation was also looked into. It was recommended that STME had contributed immensely to proffering solutions to the problems of security and economic development of Nigeria as a nation. Also, unqualified mathematics teachers must not be allowed to teach mathematics in public and private schools.
