Abstract


This study investigated services in secondary schools science laboratory for innovation in Basic Science and Technology in Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo State. The survey also considered the availability of science laboratory services in relation to their utilization. Three research questions were formulated to guide the study. The target population were all secondary school science teachers in Atiba Local Government Oyo State. The sample consisted of ninety four (94) science (basic science and technology, physics, chemistry, and biology) teacher randomly drawn from four schools in Atiba Local Government Area. One research instrument, Availability and Utilization of Science Laboratory Services Checklist, (AUSLSC) (r=79) was used for data collection. Frequency count, percentages, mean score and Pearson Product Moment Correlation were used for the data analysis. The results showed that many number of science laboratory services were not available in secondary schools ( ?2.25). The extent of utilization of science laboratory services was low ( ?= 2.45, the result further revealed that there is positive relationship between availability and utilization of Physics laboratory services (r = .907, p<.05). this study therefore, recommends that science laboratory services be made available in secondary schools to improve on their utilization for innovation in basic science and technology in schools.
